Journey to the North & South

Introduction

The Second Quarter Project, dubbed, “Journey to the North & South” was aimed at visiting some orphanage homes in the Northern and Southern sectors of Ghana. It was initially scheduled to be held on 24th June, 2023 but due to lack of funds, it was postponed to 8th July, 2023. The orphanage homes that were initially selected for this project included; Bongo Orphanage home (Church of Christ Orphanage Home) in Bongo-Upper East Region, Village of Hope (Greater Accra & Central region), Fafraha Home (Greater Accra region) and Mama Lardi Home (Upper East region).

All the above homes were not attended to as planned due to inadequate funds raised so priority was given to Bongo Orphanage Home and for the remaining homes NHIS registration and renewals were made for them based on requests received from them.

The visit to Bongo Orphanage home was successful and very fruitful as many interesting events unfolded. Emissaries present were: Ernest Ayensu (Executive Director),Isaac Manu(Head of Finance and Publicity) and Harriet Ansah (Ambassador). The team left Accra at around 6:30pm on friday, 7th July 2023 and arrived at the home on saturday, 2:00pm, where we were warmly welcomed. It was indeed a journey

Activities

  • We were asked of our mission for which Mr. Ernest Ayensu spoke on behalf of team on our mission and vision as an organization and the response we are given to their request. They were soo happy to hear the good tidings we brought especially the renewals of the NHIS.
  • Time with the children

The kids were actively engaged by Mr. Isaac Manu he led them to sing so happily. He also advised them on the need to be obedient and to keep their dreams high.

  • Harriet Ansah assisted with the renewals of the NHIS cards.
  • Itemized List (Maize, Oil, Tin tomato, Rice, Milo, Milk, Palm oil, Soap, Detol, Washing powder, Exercise books, Pens, Erasers, Drinks and T-roll.
  • A total amount of GHc 6,439 was spent.

As part of the project activities, we were to have visited other homes like Village of hope ( Ayawaso & Gomoa Fetteh ,Frafraha Foster Home) but it did not come off due to insufficient funds so we resulted to getting their NHIS registered which we did for Ayawaso because they needed it. The total cost was GHC 189.00.

Therefore, the total expenditure on the Second Quarter Project was GH¢ 6,628.

Challenges and Recommendations

The main challenge had to do with the long distance as the team spent over 30hours in the bus. On such long distances, the team should use flight to reduce the hours and risk involved in such travels.

We still need a car as an organization to reduce the transportation cost.

Conclusion

The children really had fun and the emissaries also enjoyed themselves. May the good Lord bless us all for remembering these little ones. If they say a prayer, they will surely say one for us.  May God bless us all. Long live PSF!
